The funny Windows Update button on the Printer Drivers page

Had an issue last week where a system I was working on was missing the “Windows Update” button on the Add Printers drivers page.

Turns out that this button is controlled by a registry key. It is located here: “HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DriverSearching”

It is called “DontSearchWindowsUpdate”, it is a REG_DWORD with a value of 0 or 1.

It is from the ICM.ADMX, but that wasn’t applied to the system, so that made this much more difficult to find.
